New masterclass


Surge presents… The Carpetbag Brigade Masterclass
19 th – 22 nd July 2017
This three day masterclass teaching street theatre, mixing acrostilts, butoh
dance, contact improvisation and physical theatre.
For beginner, intermediate and advanced stiltwalkers, each level will
receive different classes geared towards using our work to create theatrically
engaging processions as performance art. It will include aspects of our
acrostilt vocabulary but is designed more as a class to develop ensemble
cohesiveness on stilts and site responsive techniques of engagement.
Participants will be invited to perform in the opening procession of the
Merchant City Festival on July 22 nd , which serves as the culminating event of
the class.
The workshop will be conducted by the full ensemble of The Carpetbag
Brigade, including Director Jay Ruby, Alicia Gerstein, Helen Goodrum and
Erik Elizondo
Masterclass Dates: Wednesday 19 th – Friday 21 st July 2017 10am –
Procession Date: Saturday 22 nd July 2017 (Optional) approximate
time 10am – 2pm
Cost of Masterclass: £100 +VAT (total cost £120)
Please send a CV or bio to and state your approximate skill
level on stilts. Also please state whether you have stilts and/ or knee pads
you can bring to the masterclass and what type of stilts you will bring.
