Theatre Bristol Bulletin: 22 June 2017- Ice Cream Edition

newsletter 22 june

Who doesn’t like ice cream? Literally everyone likes ice cream. Unless you’re one of those “Fro-Yo” people. I once heard two guys on the Harbourside having the most intense conversation about Fro-Yo; there was a lot detail about flavours, toppings, sauces, the whole shebang. It went on for a good 20 minutes.

Anyway, this week I’ve eaten about 20,000 White Magnums, hence this edition is an homage to the good stuff.

You know what’ll make you feel good? A Calippo, that’s what. Cool, tasty and always a bit fruity, just like Tom Marshman who is performing two works in Bristol as part of Pride. Kings X Remix on 5th July which in my opinion is Tom’s magnum opus (ice cream pun intended) and Hot Dates With The Past on 30th June -1st July. Tom is an actual Bristol legend put it in your diary NOW.

A twister is an ice cream of many flavours, a veritable banquet of taste sensations all wrapped up in one mighty package. A little bit like PE class a Tobacco Factory Theatre, a series of director-led workshops exploring ensemble practice. A whole lot of flavours all under one roof! For this final session, Michael Smith from PaddleBoat, will lead the group. PaddleBoat are Exeter-based artists working with diverse range of young people. Last chance to get involved so get down there on 27 June.

Its an oldie, but a goodie. Who can resist a Cornetto when the sun’s shining? Just the right mix of old skool charm, nostalgia and with the high quality chops to pull it off. A bit like good ol’ William Shakespeare. This neat segue is to let you know that Shakespeare’s Worst is on as part of Bristol Shakespeare Festival, 4-8 July. Described as “a Simpsons writer takes on Shakespeare”, its like a Cornetto but sexier. It’s a salted caramel Cornetto. Shakespeare, but sweeter and more addictive. And it’s actually written by a Simpsons writer, that part’s not a metaphor.
