Theatre Bristol Bulletin: 6th April 2017 (The weekly meander Edition)

Hello, and welcome to TB’s weekly meander around some of the brilliant stuff that’s happening in Bristol, (and an update of a couple of things we are up to).

6 April 17First off, thanks to everyone who came to our open office yesterday; open office is a chance to meet our Artist Support Associates for tea and a chocolate biscuit, and to chat about ideas, projects, or simply meet other artists. It’s also great to get to know you, especially if you’re new to the city.

April 6 2017We currently have 4 Artist Support Associates, each working one day a week. They are here for you, so if you have a project or anything else you want to discuss, then drop them an email.

Over the last year TB has been running an Action Learning Set in partnership with facilitator Sarah Pym. Action Learning is a powerful peer to peer personal development process, allowing participants to support each other to identify their own solutions to a problem or issue. From September there is an opportunity to start a second set, so if you’d like to find out more (no commitment at this stage) drop Sophie an email by 3rd May.

So what’s on in Bristol?

April 6 2017Bristol Improv Theatre will be inventing stories from a title you provide with no rehearsal in Mockingbird (tonight only), with ex TB-er Simon Day; Messiah at Bristol Old Vic opens tonight following a sell-out run in 2013; it’s the final night of Kings Cross (Remix) by Tom Marshman at The Wardrobe, the show uncovers the hidden histories of LGBT communities in London during the 1980s; Tartuffe, the second production in the Shakespeare at the Tobacco Factory season also opens tonight; and next week, for a family audience, is Tessa Bide’s A Strange New Space at Circomedia (a wordless one woman show, combining physical theatre with puppetry and original music)

Looking forward to next month, the wonderful Firebird Theatre will present their 25th anniversary production A Spark and a Beating Heart at The Trinity Centre. The show is their story and one not to miss.

Among the many opportunities on is a call out from Raquel Meseguer (Lost Dog / Unchartered Collective) for 10 participants with chronic pain to develop an immersive performance this summer 2017; a chance for performers, directors, facilitators and teachers to experience inclusive rehearsal practice with award winning company Diverse City; and the Ignite Resident Artist Call Out for Summer 2017.

There are jobs going at The Redgrave (Duty Theatre Manager), Bristol Old Vic (Deputy Ticketing Manager) a new Musical Cabaret at the Alma Tavern (stage manager and pianist) and The Tobacco Factory are looking for an actor/musician for their Christmas production of Beauty and the Beast.

I’ve refrained from mentioning the sunny days we’ve been having (mostly because I have been stuck in the office all day so seem to have missed them) but I HOPE it lasts to the weekend and enjoy – we might just have the first BBQ of the year.
