Theatre Bristol Bulletin: 7th October 2016 (the Apprentice edition)
Following the global success* of my previous Bake Off themed newsletter, I’ve decided to stay right on trend with hit TV shows. This week it’s The Apprentice, which returned to our screens last night. In case you missed episode 1, here’s the low down on some of the candidates. Cue the music – Dum duh dum duh dum duh dum duh dum duh dum duh dum duuuuuhhhh…
Oliver Nohl-Oser sometimes feels like James Bond when he’s in his suit, so with films in mind I thought he might enjoy a break from his food distribution business to see Spaghetti: A Western, a puppet theatre pastiche, on 11th and 12th October at The Wardrobe Theatre. Maybe it’ll inspire him to swap his suit for cowboy chaps in the Boardroom. We can but hope.
Sofiane Khelfa, a Senior Sales Executive from Essex, is, apparently, like a chameleon. He adapts to anything, anywhere, anytime. Great! Sofiane is the perfect candidate for the Re:generations Conference, the UK’s only international platform dedicated to showcasing African influenced dance styles such as Hip Hop, Jazz, Afro Caribbean, traditional and contemporary African and Caribbean, Afro-Latin, and African American Dance. Adapt to that lot, you lovely lizard.
Paul Sullivan, Marketing Agency owner from Chigwell, says “I’ll play the team when I need to be part of the team, but I’m here to win; I’m not here to make up the numbers.” Tut tut Paul, you need to get yourself along to the first PE class of four next Tuesday with Sharp Teeth Director Steph Kempson. She’s looking at finding alternative ways through movement, sound and music to access challenging texts. And maybe you could create a short performance demonstrating what you learned for Lord Sugar in next week’s Boardroom. We’ll look forward to it.
JD O’Brien, the owner of a beachwear company from London, might be interested in TB’s bursaries of £150 to attend conferences or events specifically focussed on dance. As someone who says he “will get upset by other candidates who don’t know their arse from their elbow”, he could use the money to find new ways of articulating his own arse from his elbow. Or not. Whichever.
And finally, for some real life, TB based employment news.
I first met Katie Keeler when she came into Circomedia to explain the mystery of what it actually was that producers do. She went on to become my real life Lord Alan Sugar, offering me an internship at TB. Five years and more than twenty tenuously themed newsletters later, it’s fallen to me to announce that Katie’s off to pastures new as Executive Producer of Kaleider. Katie, we wish you so much luck for the future. We’ll miss you.
Ladies and gentlemen of Bristol and beyond – a big round of applause please for Ms Katie Keeler.
Cat Boot for Team TB
P.S. The TB website is on the verge of being fired. Please help it stay in the game for another week by donating.
