Theatre Bristol Bulletin: 1 September 2016 (the algorithmically driven edition)

Hello there!

Facebook sacked its trending team this week, because it thought an algorithm could do the job on its own. Turns out an algorithm is loose with truth and decency.

This ‘what’s trending’ on theatrebristol.net bulletin is brought to you by an actual human, without fancy technology. Which means, no lies or indecency. Sorry about that.

biennialThe Bristol Biennial: In Other Worlds starts tomorrow!!! They say we can bathe in a rainbow, party in the future, perform for animals. Yes – FOR animals. Plus lots more.

Monday (5th) is the deadline for choreographers and dancers wanting the help of an audience to develop a new show to apply to Testing Ground.

In Between Time is looking for 45 people to represent Bristol in a new dance and theatre performance on the main stage of Bristol Old Vic. No experience necessary. Anyone living in Bristol over 8 years old can audition. You’d be part of The Record by award winning New York theatre company 600 HIGHWAYMEN and star in IBT17 Bristol International Festival. Tell everyone.

“I was nervous…but I ended up feeling like a star!” – Past participant

doingThe hugely respected Cardboard Citizens are in Bristol on the 17th and 18th for a workshop on the Art of Engagement. They will cover the theory, practice and application of Forum Theatre in encouraging social change within the community. It will be a meeting place of arts and social sector people too.

The workshop is part of Doing Things Differently, which you HAVE to take a look at. I challenge you not to find at least one thing you would LOVE to be at.

CoResist are starting Storytelling Sundays on the first Sunday of every month at Hamilton House. The first one, this Sunday is Clare Muireann Murphy with her show Universe. Myths, science, dream bridges…

eloiseThe wonderful Wardrobe Ensemble have a new show – Eloise & The Curse of the Golden Whisk at The Wardrobe for two weeks from Tuesday.

The Independent Theatre Council
is brilliant. We know, because we are members. If you are not a member, you can get a ton of help through free helpsheets, sample contracts, Twitter and Facebook Q&A and 1-2-1 phone calls with their experts about legal, financial or management matters on their Open To All day – Monday 12th September #itc999

Finally, if you’d like to know more about the team behind this bulletin, we’ve just published (right now) the Theatre Bristol Annual Report Be the first to read it.

That’s it. An algorithm would beat me on clickbait but you don’t need to know what one man can do with a McDonalds Chicken sandwich. You’ve got Facebook for that.

P.S. Theatrebristol.net holds so much good stuff but it is creaking under the weight of it all. The technology needs updating. If you can give £3 as a one off or every so often, or sign up for Easy Fundraising, which will not cost you a penny, we promise not to get ahead of ourselves with algorithms.
