Theatre Bristol Bulletin: 6th July 2017 (the July edition)

July 17It’s July

How did that happen? Wimbledon is on, post exam teenagers populate every green space, the sun occasionally shines, and The Bristol Shakespeare Festival takes place. Events are happening all over Bristol, from Stackpool Playhouse showing Shakespeare’s Worst, the world premiere of a new play by Mike Reiss, writer and producer of The Simpsons, to the improvised Impromptu Shakespeare at The Wardrobe and Ophelia: Madness (in blue) at St Paul’s Church, as well as the more traditional productions.

 What else?

Still on a festival theme this Saturday is Pride Day Festival. The parade starts at 11am with the music stages kicking off at midday. You can read all about Tom Marshman’s involvement with Pride in our showcase, Pride and Me.

July 17

July wouldn’t be July without Ferment Fortnight, a chance to see performance ideas take shape, and then feedback on what you’ve seen for just £5 a performance… bargain. Check out TB’s own Tanuja Amarasuriya showing A Million Tiny Glitches by her company Sleepdogs on 19th.

What about jobs?

July 17If you want a new challenge from your July then Tangle Theatre are looking for an Executive Director, Circomedia are after an Operations Manager and it’s your last chance to apply to work with DragonBird Theatre as a fundraiser (deadline Friday)

And good opportunities?

July 17Tickets have just gone on sale for the Making the City Playable Conference, at Watershed in October, the brilliant RISE Youth Dance are running a trainee scheme from September for 18-25 year olds, Bristol Old Vic are hosting a Kneehigh Masterclass Day for young people aged 7-25 and Dursley Library is looking for an artist to propose a story intervention, performance, workshop or community engagement to be delivered on the Gloucestershire mobile library bus in October.

Anything else?

welcome mat

We’re looking forward to welcoming Miraim Battye to TB on Monday as she starts as our new administrator but sad to say goodbye to Sophie who will be leaving us (once she’s shown Miriam how to pick the lock of the petty cash tin – see 25th May newsletter)

Thanks to everyone who completed our survey about being a parent working in theatre, a summery of the findings can be read here.

If you are looking for rehearsal space check out Meanwhile BS3, the TB space we have for hire until the end of the year.
