Artist Development

what’s new?

our astronaut artist development programme

Thanks to an Arts Council England grant and excellent partners, we are thrilled to be launching our new Artist Development Programme: the regional NASA UK Space Stations and The Busking Lab.

We can all benefit from continued professional development. We have much to learn from our peers who bring a wide range of lived experiences, from those who carry the wisdom of years on the road to the fresh perspectives of young artists.

Our events and initiatives are driven by a desire to share our know-how, to support each other and to open our horizons to what is possible in a celebratory and supportive way. We believe in the collective wisdom of our members and in creating programmes which facilitate them helping each other through peer support.

Space Stations are short creation weeks for outdoor artists, makers and shakers. First piloted in the Autumn of 2024 at Whirligig Woods in Cheshire, Space Stations allow time, space, and people to bounce ideas around with and tackle creative knots. Facilitated, structured creation time and space.

Skill Labs are training workshops to develop skills relevant to our practice. Starting with a Busking Lab (in March 2026) taught by our very own steering group members and busking skills experts Darryl J Carrington, and Rob Sims with Paschale Straighton offering dramaturgy and audience engagement tips, and there’s more in the pipeline.

ah thanks…

We are grateful for the wonderful partners supporting us with these events.

Outdoor Arts UK, Freedom Festival Hull and Without Walls are providing bursary funding for participants to attend at a reduced cost when needed. They are also helping us get the message out!

Outdoor Arts UK are also providing guidance, feedback and much needed support.

Out There Arts, Apus Productions, and 101 Outdoor Arts Creation Centre are our fabulous venue hosts and local community connectors.

We hope you, fellow artists and makers, are as excited as we are by this programme and will come and join us wherever you can and wherever we can help.
